Gloves not Guns is a participant of the Region 6 USA Amateur Boxing Organization. The Gloves Not Guns Organization is striving towards refurbishing our youth. Coach Albert Brewer began Gloves Not Guns about five years ago in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. At one time if you Googled Pine Bluff, Arkansas it would name Pine Bluff as the worst little city in America. I myself have lived in Pine Bluff for many years and the song that comes to mind is Tye Tribbett’s, It’s Good In The Hood. The song says that “Everybody ain’t walking around carrying guns thinking it’s fun...some of us are really good people just had a crazy life, and now in jail with long nights...some of us are taking good care of our kids, making sure they got clothes and something in the fridge…Good in the hood”. This is true for Pine Bluff because of mentors like Coach Albert Brewer.
The main event of the night is the Arkansas State Golden Gloves Heavy Weight Championship Bout. This Boxing match will name the Arkansas State Golden Gloves Heavy Weight Champion!!! Professional Referee, Tony Weeks of Las Vegas, Nevada is the special guest. Weeks has refereed over 600 professional fights including, Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao vs. Marco Antonio Barrera!!! There is also a special honoree for the event, Mr. Roy Rodgers, who is in his eighties and has been a servant leader for the Golden Gloves Boxing Association for years.
